“Here at Direct365, we’ve grown from a tiny company situated in a small outbuilding, to a reputable business with just over 50 employees, all with their own skills, qualifications, talents and stories to tell.  As a company, we believe in the progression our staff and rewarding hard work. It’s true that employees are happier when they’re doing what they’re best at. Sometimes, however, finding out what this is can take time.

At Direct365, we like to find out what makes our staff tick; their strengths, weaknesses and preferences in their role, which is why we’re starting a short series to highlight some of our employees who have progressed through the company and how we have supported them through it!”

This week, we sat down with Steph, our Category Assistant Buyer, currently undergoing a CIPS qualification.

When did you start with Direct365?

I started in September, last year (2013)

What is your current role within Direct365?

I am a Category Assistant Buyer

You’re currently training for a CIPS qualification. Can you tell me a little more about that?

I’m training to become a buyer, through CIPS (the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supplies). The qualification will take 2 years to complete, as I’m aiming for levels 3-5 (There are 5 modules per level). It essentially consists of workshop meetings where I’m taught various module on the course, and is concluded by a 2 or 3 hour exam. The qualification is taught all over the world – UK, Australia, South Africa… It’s recognise worldwide, so should stand me in good stead for the future!

By the end of it I will be a qualified buyer, and will be able to source and develop new products and take an overall look at what we could be bring into the business.

How has Direct365 supported you throughout this qualification?

I’m given time off for both my exams and my workshops, and well as having help on demand, whenever I should need it. Also, they pay for the entire qualification.

What’s your favourite thing about working here?

I’d have to say it’s the people, for me.

How would you describe Direct365 in 3 words?

Fun, engaging, hardworking.

Would you recommend working here to others?

Yes! I did, in fact. My sister was on the accounts team over the summer as a little work experience in her time out from University.
