Commercial Waste Management During COVID-19

In March 2020, the UN Environment Programme announced Waste Management an essential public service in the fight to beat COVID-19, stating:

“Governments are urged to treat waste management, including of medical, household and other hazardous waste, as an urgent and essential public service in order to minimise possible secondary impacts upon health and the environment.

During such an outbreak, many types of additional medical and hazardous waste are generated, including infected masks, gloves and other protective equipment, together with a higher volume of non-infected items of the same nature. Unsound management of this waste could cause unforeseen “knock-on” effects on human health and the environment. The safe handling, and final disposal of this waste is therefore a vital element in an effective emergency response.”

Many regions in the UK are facing disruption, particularly with recycling services, however safe and reliable waste disposal is still a priority during these times.

For those businesses that remain open, all waste regulations that can be followed must be followed.

Waste Management FAQs

Do I need a separate Recycling Service?

In a nutshell, yes – but we make this easy for you. Recyclables just need to be kept separate from general waste, then our Dry Mixed Recycling service will segregate the materials. This “separate” service can be bundled with any other waste services you need, so everything is dealt with in one handy contract.

Please bear in mind, during the current pandemic crisis, many recycling centres are closed. When you make a recycling enquiry, we’ll notify you of the situation in your specific area.

Can I put food waste in my general waste bins?

Don’t mistake food waste for general waste. Waste disposal to landfill sites is facing increasing costs, meaning that properly segregating your recyclable food and general waste could save you money in the long run (and save the environment!). In addition, England and Wales’ “Safer Food Better Business” system states that bins should have close fitting lids to deter pests, so food disposal should follow these guidelines with a specialist service.

Please bear in mind, during the current pandemic crisis, some waste service options may differ. When you make a food waste enquiry, we’ll notify you of the situation in your specific area.

What time will you come and collect my waste?

Our services are flexible and designed to work around your business’s needs. We’ll work with you to create a bespoke schedule at the times that suit you best.

Hassle-free collections are available either weekly or fortnightly, and we supply bins suitable for various waste amounts (from standard 240 litre capacity to large 1100 litre front/rear loaders).

Just get in touch to discuss availability in your area, and we’ll do our best to find the perfect time for you.
