Next in line for our honest review is the Airforce hand dryer from World Dryers. Our previous posts over the weeks have been for the PHS Airstream Pure, Vitesse and Whisper. This time, we’re moving on to one of the most popular dryers in our range – World Dryer’s Airforce hand dryer.

The Airforce is a quality dryer and that’s shown by just how many washrooms opt for this model. There are a few bits that may not suit your organisation, but that’s what our honest review is for.  So settle in for the next in our catalogue of reviews and see what you think.

Noise Volume – ⭐⭐⭐

The volume of a dryer is always one of the first questions most customers have. Many of our customers come from small businesses, with limited space for their washrooms. To have a loud dryer blurring away in the corner of their premises isn’t exactly attractive. The Airforce hand dryer is 85db at approx. 1 meter away. For a little better context, that sounds a similar range to a food blender. If you want to take into consideration that 60db is around the volume of a conversation, you may get a better idea. So, while this can’t be considered as a quiet dryer, it’s certainly not overly loud and aggressive.

Eco-Friendly – ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The eco-friendly credentials of the Airforce dryer is where we really start to kick into gear. The Airforce hand dryer is powered by a robust 34,000 RPM motor that uses just 1.1kW of energy, making it one of the most energy-efficient dryers in its class. If you’re looking for a hand dryer that can save you money by reducing the energy you use, this would be a good shout.

Speed of Dry – ⭐⭐

This is the area where the Airforce is less remarkable. While the dry time – sitting at 17-19 seconds – isn’t awful, there are dryers on the market that are clearly much quicker to dry. The power usually comes at a higher energy cost, so if you’re looking for a machine more powerful, you may struggle to get one as eco-friendly as the Airforce.

Budget – ⭐⭐⭐

Amongst the key questions that customers ask is about the price. The Airforce hand dryer is a neatly priced £342 ex-VAT (at the time of writing) which makes it slap bang around the centre of the other dryers within our whole range. For quality, it’s hard to argue – these aren’t cheap dryers and don’t perform like that either.

Hygiene and IP Rating – ⭐⭐⭐

There’s not a lot to tell with the IP rating of the PHS Airstream Vitesse. It’s an IP24, which is the same as its sister dryers. But what does this mean exactly?

IP rating is short for International Protection. What that means really, is how protected from the elements your appliance – in this case, hand dryer – is. IP comes with two numbers afterwards. These numbers should be taken independently of each other. The first number – in the case of IP24, the 2 – reflects the level of protection against solid items/particles. The second number – the 4 – relates to the level of water protection on the appliance.

IP24 means that the protection from objects no smaller than 12.5mm and the protection against water is splashes of water or less than.

Summary – ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2

We’ve given some pretty compelling reasons to buy the Airforce, and some reasons why it might not be for you. And while the budget is a positive – being similar to other units in the market – the noise levels, especially if you’re looking for a quiet dryer, are not ideal. Fine for a standard washroom, but for smaller spaces or disabled washrooms, the Airforce isn’t what you’d need. All in all though, Warner Howard’s Airforce hand dryer is a solid machine that is popular for a reason.
