We understand that it can be hard to quite understand which hand dryer to buy for your business, and what the different features mean in the real world. Most businesses we work with don’t have much of a clue what they need, and that’s why they turn to us. But with this in mind, we bring you the first in a new campaign for the next few months, that focuses on the specifics of a wide range of our hand dryer products.

First up, we’re going to review the PHS Airstream. A very well-liked dryer, we’d like to give you a greater flavour of why exactly people do like this dryer so much, and whether it would work for you. We’ll give an honest reflection of the dryer, we’ll give you the positives and any possible negatives all the way through. Let’s crack on.

 

Noise Volume – ⭐⭐⭐

The noise levels on a PHS Airstream compare favourably to many of the other dryers on the market. At 85db, you aren’t going to be buying a dryer that is too overbearing in the washroom, and particularly noticeable outside it.

For those many who don’t have a general awareness of what 85db sounds like, don’t worry. For a bit of context, a coffee grinder at home is approx. 80db. So, a normal household item compares nicely to the noise PHS Airstream.

 

Eco-Friendly – ⭐⭐⭐

We’re finding more and more customers asking questions about the eco credentials of our products. The great thing now is that there are plenty of eco-friendly products in the hand dryer category. And the PHS Airstream, while not being the best, is still a decent product. Using just a 1100w motor, it isn’t comparable to the best eco dryers on the market (for example, our C21 Gladiator has a 650w motor) it doesn’t use a huge amount of power to give a quick dry.

 

Speed of Dry – ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Speed of dry is always a key factor for customers when purchasing a dryer. This usually comes in parallel with budget, and often the cheaper dryers will have a long dry time. For most customers, it’s about finding the right balance. The PHS Airstream Pure has a great dry time of just 12 seconds. This compares really well to many of the other dryers we feature in our specific quick drying dryers.

Budget – ⭐⭐⭐

At time of writing, the PHS Airstream Pure is £449 ex VAT. This puts it around about slap bang in the middle of our range for budget. Our entire range includes a lot of dryers, and while this price isn’t bad, we must say that it isn’t comparable to the cheap budget dryers that we stock. So while price wouldn’t be a deciding factor in our opinion with the Pure, it’s important to state that budget often reflects limitations or more basic features available to a dryer.

 

Hygiene and IP Rating – ⭐⭐⭐

Let’s start with the safety first. The IP rating on the PHS Airstream Pure is IP24. That could mean nothing to you, so we’ll do a brief explainer.

IP rating is short for International Protection. What that means really, is how protected from the elements your appliance – in this case, hand dryer – is. IP comes with two numbers afterwards. These numbers should be taken independently of each other. The first number – in the case of IP24, the 2 – reflects the level of protection against solid items/particles. The second number – the 4 – relates to the level of water protection on the appliance.

IP24 means that the protection from objects no smaller than 12.5mm and the protection against water is splashes of water or less than.

The hygiene level of this dryer is of high quality. With 2 HEPA filters that remove 99% of bacteria, this is at least comparable to the rest of the market when it comes to hygiene.

 

Summary – ⭐⭐⭐⭐

In summary, the PHS Airstream Pure is a really great hand dryer that compares favourably with other dryers in our range (see our review of the Airstream Whisper hand dryer). The speed of dry is quick, making it suitable for larger washrooms with high footfall. The budget it one of the things holding it back for those looking for something cheap and cheerful. But on that note, most of our customers understand that they’re not going to get the highest quality of dryer with a low budget dryer. So for quality, the PHS Airstream Pure works well.

Additionally, while the noise levels aren’t high, comparing them to the quiet dryer sub-category there is a difference. For most consumers, this level of noise isn’t a problem, but it is worth thinking about when buying for an accessible washroom or a washroom in a medical and care environment.

Overall, the PHS Airstream Pure is a great hand dryer, and could be considered for most washrooms.
