Short on Time? Here’s a Rundown of the PHS Airstream Vitesse
The PHS Airstream Vitesse is a budget friendly dryer that has a quick dry time of 11 seconds and is an eco-friendly dryer that can help cut your carbon footprint and cost. For those looking for a mid-range dryer that ticks the boxes, this is the one for you.
In the last review of our series on the PHS Airstream models, we tackle the strong and sturdy Vitesse machine. So far, we’ve seen that all three models can deliver the job, with two slightly different options between the Pure and the Whisper. But now it’s time for a look at the final variation in the Airstream family. Another popular, reliable model, we’ll take a closer look under the hood of this hand dryer. In our five sections, we discuss noise volume, eco-friendliness, speed of dry, budget and hygiene rating. As we move on, the differences between the other two models will appear (you can read our Pure review here and our Whisper review here) and you’ll get a good glance at which you think would best suit your washroom needs. So sit back and take a look at exactly what we think about the PHS Airstream Vitesse in our honest review of the dryer.
Noise Volume – ⭐⭐⭐
The noise volume of the Vitesse is 85dB, which compared to the Pure is exactly the same. The Whisper, whose niche is being a quieter dryer, is clearly lower than that at 70dB. To compare the volume level of the Vitesse to an every day household item, the noise is similar to that of a hairdryer. Which isn’t so surprising, considering both items use air to dry. If you’re looking for something much quieter, you may want to shop around, but this hand dryer isn’t a bad choice in this category.
Eco-Friendly – ⭐⭐⭐
This hand dryer is officially part of our energy efficient range because it gives a great dry while still being low on energy use. A favourite for those that want a quality dryer that can reduce their carbon footprint without taking an age to dry hands, this is the ticket. A quick dry still and low energy usage, you’re onto a winner with the Vitesse.
Speed of Dry – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Sometimes, this is the only category people are interested in. And in relation to that, the Vitesse is a satisfying dryer. A dry time of approx. 11 seconds, it does the job much quicker than a lot of dryers on the market. And for that it’s hard to argue that the speed of dry isn’t one of the most compelling and persuasive reasons to buy the Vitesse.
Budget – ⭐⭐⭐
The PHS Vitesse is a really great value hand dryer. A lowest cost option that our two other Airstream items – the Pure and the Whisper – but the quality of product you’re getting isn’t massively dissimilar. There is a clear difference in the noise level between the Vitesse and the Whisper, but in terms of anything else, the main difference between the Vitesse and the Pure is the filtration systems. The Pure, slightly more expensive at £449 + VAT (at time of writing) compared to £397 + VAT for the Vitesse, has two HEPA 13 filters. The PHS Airstream Vitesse only has standard mesh intake filters. You can decide for yourself if you would prefer to save the additional money being without the HEPA filters or whether that’s a dealbreaker for your washroom.
Hygiene and IP Rating – ⭐⭐⭐
There’s not a lot to tell with the IP rating of the PHS Airstream Vitesse. It’s an IP24, which is the same as its sister dryers. But what does this mean exactly?
IP rating is short for International Protection. What that means really, is how protected from the elements your appliance – in this case, hand dryer – is. IP comes with two numbers afterwards. These numbers should be taken independently of each other. The first number – in the case of IP24, the 2 – reflects the level of protection against solid items/particles. The second number – the 4 – relates to the level of water protection on the appliance.
IP24 means that the protection from objects no smaller than 12.5mm and the protection against water is splashes of water or less than.
Summary
So, what do we think of the PHS Airstream Vitesse after all of that? Well, it’s a good dryer at a really good budget. It doesn’t do any one thing excellently (although the dry time is a bonus compared to the rest of the market) but covers all bases naturally. The IP rating is a bit low, and generally speaking if you’re looking for a quiet dryer, you may want to opt for the PHS Airstream Whisper or another specifically quite model (as found here). There’s very little wrong with this dryer, but if you’ve got specific thoughts on what you need, there’s a chance you may not find those features here.
