The next hand dryer review in our recent run is about the Xlerator® Excel Hand Dryer. A popular dryer that you’ll have no doubt seen in the washrooms of pubs, clubs and other venues, the Excel dryer is a clear favourite amongst hand dryer customers. But is this a unit you should buy for your business property? That’s what we’re here to find out. We’ve already reviewed seven other hand dryers (from the Dyson Airblade V to the PHS Airstream Vitesse) so if you’re looking to discover even more about our most popular dryers, click the links above.

Without further ado, let us talk you through the pros, cons and factors that you need to know about the Xlerator® Excel Hand Dryer.

Noise Volume – ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The noise volume on this dryer really is impressively low. At between 65-75dB, the Xlerator is a low noise dryer that compares favourably to the competition. At an average of 70db, the Xlerator is only 10db higher than a normal conversation (60db). That’s a low noise dryer that would fit in both a large washroom where the dryer is on consistently, or a smaller washroom that’s closer to any public-facing areas.

When comparing to similar dryers, taking speed of drying into account, it is very favourable. One of the quietest dryers on the market, the SensaDri®, is 78db, higher than the Excel hand dryer by 8db. Proof indeed that the Xlerator Excel dryer is one of the best in class for noise volume.

Eco-Friendly – ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Energy efficiency is one of the main standout points of this hand dryer. Using around one fifth of the energy of a typical hand dryer, the Excel dryer is great for ensuring you are using less and paying less for the running of your dryer.

As well as this, it’s always good to keep in mind that buying a hand dryer over using paper towels is always much more environmentally friendly. For context, there’s a 95% cost saving with the Xlerator® Excel compared to buying the same amount of paper towels needed for the same drying jobs. Clearly, this is a major positive factor for buying this dryer.

Speed of Dry – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If both the speed of dry and eco-friendly categories were reasons to buy the Excel, then speed of dry, too, should tickle your fancy. The average dry time on this machine is 8 seconds, meaning that customers, especially in high volume washrooms, are moving through and back out to your business much quicker than if you’re using another, different dryer. A massive plus.

Budget – ⭐⭐⭐

If there’s something that may hold this dryer back it is the cost. While not too expensive, it certainly isn’t classed as a budget hand dryer. Coming in at £533.95 ex-VAT at the time of writing, it probably sits slap bang in the middle of the average costs of our hand dryer range.

Hygiene and IP Rating – ⭐⭐⭐

The IP rating for the Xlerator Excel is IP23. But what is an IP rating and what does IP23 mean?

IP rating is short for International Protection. What that means really, is how protected from the elements your appliance – in this case, hand dryer – is. IP comes with two numbers afterwards. These numbers should be taken independently of each other. The first number – in the case of IP23, the 2 – reflects the level of protection against solid items/particles. The second number – the 3 – relates to the level of water protection on the appliance.

IP23 means that the protection from objects no smaller than 12mm and the protection against water is splashes of water spray.

It’s undeniable that the Xlerator Excel hand dryer is an excellent dryer. The overall package is close to perfect, and while the cost is the thing that lets it down, that really is one of the only potential negatives. As we mentioned earlier, many people find this dryer right within their budget, but if you are looking for something that is cheap and cheerful, this won’t be for you. But we struggle to look passed it as an option. Two thumbs up.
