As the autumn months set in, the weather is ready to change and it’s likely that this is the time of year that you’ll notice any structural issues in your commercial building. From drafts and wind noise to damp and water damage, the cold, wet months bring all these problems out from the cold (so to speak). And one of the problems you may discover is a roof leak.

Having a leaking roof or ceiling can be a nightmare. Usually, it starts off as a small problem, but eventually the issue will get bigger, and you’ll need to do something about it. Regardless of when the issue will be fixed, the time in between could cause irreparable water damage to either the building or the things in the building. And that is an issue no one wants. But luckily, leak diverters can help.

What is a Leak Diverter?

A leak diverter is an item that can be used to ensure water doesn’t contaminate an area where a leak has started to appear.

A leak diverter is a piece of kit with a few parts. The first and main part is the material that covers the leak. This is a large, rectangular piece of material that hangs below the leak by its four corners and collects the water. Next, the water will fall through a hole at the lowest point of the material, and through a tube that flows down into a container. This simple but effective tool ensures that the water from your leak is diverted into a purpose-built container, instead of spilling over whatever is below it. Pretty neat, huh?

Where Might I Need a Leak Diverter?

This is a good question, and the answer isn’t as simple as ‘under a leak’. There are many different circumstances and places that you may need a leak diverter, and here are just a few:

Warehouses or Storage Units

These are common areas with potential leaks, and some of the most worrying. Warehouses and storage units usually hold valuable or costly items (sometimes both!) and the last thing you need is water-damaged goods. Stopping a leak here is usually high on the list of priorities.

Electrical/Server Rooms

Rooms with lots of electrics are places you do not want a leak. Either from your ceiling, roof or even an over-worked air-conditioning unit, water can appear from anywhere to devastating effect. If this happens, having something to capture the water could be really important.

Office Space

Your office space will also have a lot of electrical equipment, but it will also have a more important resource – staff! If you get a leak in your office there’s a good chance you won’t be able to get it fixed quickly, but our leak diverters may be your quickest fix.

Other Workspace

Whether you’re a tattoo parlour, salon, or shop, you could easily come unstuck with a ceiling or roof leak. If so, it is well worth investing in a leak diverter.

A Roof Leak can be a Nightmare for a Business. Leak Diverters can Help.

I Have a Roof Leak, What Should I Do?

Firstly, you should identify where the leak is, and ensure that anything in the area of the leak is moved. This could be electrical equipment, valuable goods, people, or more.

Next, look for where the leak is coming from. It is usually from the roof or ceiling, so find the exact area, and keep people away from it. Ensure you clean up any liquid that’s there currently, then you need to try and get the leak fixed. There is usually a wait, so we advise picking up a leak diverter to minimise the damage.
