All around the world, every year on March 8th, International Women’s Day brings to light the celebration of the achievements of women, whilst simultaneously calling for a gender equality. Each year, the internationalwomensday.com website carries and promotes a different theme, with 2018’s being ” #PressforProgress“ -The basis for this is to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.
The very first International Women’s Day (IWD) was held in 1911, and since then has hosted thousands of events, all with the underlying goal of celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women, where organisations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women’s groups, corporations like ours, and the media gather to celebrate the day.
The stats
It can often be understated, or swept under the carpet, the statistics for gender equality, which is why we’re going to highlight a few of them below:
Globally, women make up just 22% of parliamentarians

Some 42% of males work either in skilled trade occupations or within process, plant and machine occupations. Some 48% of females, by contrast, work within administrative/secretarial, personal service, or sales and customer service occupations.

In 2010, male full-time gross weekly earnings were £539.30 compared to £471.80 for females.

In 2010 women made up only 12.5% of the members of the corporate boards of FTSE 100 companies. This was up from 9.4% in 2004. But the rate of increase is too slow.
