An increasingly large amount of hotels, bars, restaurants and other facilities are taking to their washrooms to make an impression on their customers and create talking points around their business.

Any business that welcomes customers into their premises, be it food and drink venues, hotels, shops and more are all in competition to create a long lasting impression on their customers, from the moment they walk through the door, and even after they’ve left and word of mouth marketing comes into play. If they enjoyed their time there, they will tell their friends and recommend that business. As should be expected, and as is the quintessentially British way, the bar is always being raised when it comes to our expectations of a business, and the filter for what impresses us is being constantly refined.

One of the last things that comes to mind, in the exhaustive list of things you can tweak and improve to leave a lasting impression on customers, is a toilet. Many businesses, however, are taking their creative flair into the washrooms.

Whilst this may seem like a rather peculiar and ineffective method – it works on two levels:

On the one hand, some businesses really go to town on their washrooms and make them a luxurious and wholly pleasant place to be. Can you remember what your meal tasted like the last time you went into a wetherspoon’s restaurant, or whether the service was good? Probably not. Now, can you remember what the toilets were like in the last wetherspoon’s restaurant you went into? Many people can.

On the other hand, people expect a certain standard from a washroom. Hygienic, clean, modern and well looked after. Having a fully equipped and regularly maintained washroom might not necessarily stick in your customers minds for a long time to come, but it also won’t leave them feeling disgusted or dirty. Meeting the expectations of your customers to avoid putting them off is just as important as exceeding their expectations to impress them.  Going into a disgusting toilet is a horrible and off putting experience – don’t force this onto your customers.

Here are some ways you can equip your washroom to be the best it can be:

  • Modern hand dryers

  • Paper towel dispensers

  • Automatic taps

  • Automatic air fresheners

  • Regular inspections and cleaning schedules

  • Automatic Sanitary bins

  • Automatic lights

  • Wall mounted touchless soap dispensers

  • Add character to your washroom, to be in fitting with the rest of your premises
