Today, schools welcome their children back into classrooms as teachers deal with yet another COVID variant, as Omicron starts to take hold of the country. School COVID cleaning is set to become a frequent task once more. But there are things you can do to reduce the spread and try to avoid a COVID crisis in your school.

Current figures are unknown, but numbers in the week up to 27th December make for stark reading. Out of every 100,000, 836 children aged 5 – 9 have this virus. The number increases in older children, with 1126 in every 100,000 children aged 10 to 14. Considering this data is from a time when children will presumably been having less contact with others, there’s a chance this number will increase significantly.

Teachers and school workers have had it tough across the last two years, and school COVID cleaning is due to be important for the near future. Here are a few ways you can keep risk to a minimum this year.

Masks and the Old Routines

Since masks have become mandatory again in most settings, people have been using them as they should. Last week, the Government made it compulsory to wear masks in classrooms for older children, and while this will be tough, it is likely to help reduce transmission.

Other routines should also be observed. Keeping distance from each other is a big one, with 2m distances between desks a minimum requirement if possible. This is understandably difficult, but all distancing measures that can be used will ensure a safer environment for the children and staff.

Proper Ventilation

Proper ventilation has been proven to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection in all age groups. The Government’s official website has ventilation as one of the core pieces of advice for reducing the spread of the virus. This can be via open windows or ventilation units. The government announced last week that 7000 more air ventilators will be bought and made available to schools to help reduce the risk of infection.

Cleaning After Each Lesson

Cleaning is one of the main things that can be done to reduce infection. Ensure that door handles, equipment and window handles are cleaned. Desks and computer equipment should also be cleaned when appropriate.

Correct LFT Disposal

It is possible that students may develop symptoms while they’re at school. It is clear lateral flows will be on site. Students and staff are required to take two a week. With this in mind, you will need to ensure you have a lateral flow disposal service. Choosing one that is Government approved and cost effective is key. That is exactly how best to describe Direct365’s lateral flow disposal service. And we can dispose of PPE, too!

Washing Hands is Still Important

No matter what you do, hand washing and sanitising is the key protection against COVID-19. While it doesn’t help you if you have the virus, it is important in case of coming into contact with it. This washing can work before getting infected. Washing your hands can kill the virus if you have recently touched something that contained the virus. Our sanitiser and hand wash services can help keep you clean and fighting fit.
