If you’re not familiar with the world of hand dryers, it can be an unusual market to navigate. There are a number of options and features that can be beneficial to your business or workplace, but there may also be a number of features that you don’t need, too.

Why do you Need a Hand Dryer?

There are several reasons why you may need a hand dryer. Firstly, if you service staff, visitors or customers, they will more than likely need to use a washroom. Having a way to wash hands is not only good etiquette but it’s also the law.

The 1992 Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations make it mandatory that workplaces offer good sanitary conditions. The regulations say “suitable and sufficient sanitary conveniences shall be provided at readily accessible places”. This means that, along with other facilities, you must provide somewhere for people to dry their hands. Be these paper towels or a hand dryer, you need to be investing.

Another reason for having a hand dryer is that the cost efficiency between a hand dryer and paper towels. Paper towels are several times most costly per year than dryers. While a dryer may cost anywhere between £100 – £800 depending on model, this is a one off cost, for a dryer that will last years. Include the cost to operate a dryer which varies, but is very small, and you have a low cost model operating all year round.

Compare that with paper towels, which are bought a number of times a month for between £20 – £40 per pack. This difference is clear and shows that hand dryers are much more financially and economically prudent.

What Dryer Do I Need?

This is a question that is always tough to solve! There are a number of features that we have tried to make customers aware of, but the truth is that everyone is different.

That’s why we created our own Hand Dryer Buying Guide, which is an interactive tool that allows the user to answer questions about their business or workplace to get tailored choices of dryers based on their answers.

Some Things to Think About When Buying a Dryer

If you’re completely new to the market, you may not know some of the factors associated with buying a hand dryer. Here are a few elements to think about:

High Footfall or Low?

Footfall is the word for how many people come into your business during a given hour/day/week. If you have a constant stream of people coming in to your business – maybe a bar or restaurant or shopping centre – you would call this having high footfall. If your business is quieter, with less people likely to use a washroom, you would consider your washroom to have low footfall. This matters because some dryers aren’t built for heavy, constant use, while others are.

Eco-Friendly Option

Customers from businesses of all shapes and sizes are getting more into how they can make their business more eco-friendly. There are lots of small wins on how they can make themselves greener, and this can be done in their washrooms. As mentioned earlier, dryers are much more eco-friendly than paper towels, but some models are more eco-friendly within our own range of dryers. Noise Concerns

What isn’t so clear is how much noise you’re happy to hear coming from your hand dryer. For this, you may have a preference, but it’s also worth noting how close to your dryer is to your customer base. For smaller cafes or restaurants, where washrooms may be next to the main seating area, you wouldn’t watch customers being able to hear every time someone enters, or leaves, the bathroom.

These are just a few of the things to consider when buying a dryer. Our buying guide is the best place to discover the best choices for you.
