Still not sure about Testing and Calibration?

What is Calibration?

Calibration is the verification of an instrument or device to a known standard, which deems it accurate and safe to use. Calibration takes into account the tolerance of an instrument, the use of the instrument, the repeatability and the time internal since the last calibration.

When should you calibrate your equipment?

You may need to calibrate your equipment when:

  • It is brand new (sometimes they come out the factory not properly calibrated)
  • When a time period has passed (Usually a year)
  • After a certain number of hours of use
  • When it has had a shock or vibration which could have knocked it out of calibration (This is important if you travel a lot with your equipment)
  • Whenever your equipment looks damaged or visibly seems to out of calibration

Why should you calibrate?

Testing and calibration isn't just a tick in a legal box, it could keep your business afloat should you ever have an impromptu inspection. A quick visual check of your equipment once in a while is enough, especially with an inspection looming. Not only could this be dangerous for the patient, but also it could lead to strong legal action if you're found to be using equipment that isn't up to scratch.
