Lifepak Defibrillators are highly regarded for several reasons:

  • High Performance: Lifepak Defibrillators deliver up to 360J, which has been shown to improve conversion rates for difficult-to-defibrillate patients. This high energy level can be crucial in cases where lower energy levels are ineffective.

  • Ease of Use: Lifepak AEDs are known for their intuitive and user-friendly design. They offer clear and simple instructions, which can be a lifesaver in high-stress situations. Some models even have a fully automatic version, which can analyse the heart's rhythm and deliver the life-saving shock without the rescuer having to make a decision.

  • Durability: They are built to withstand drops, shocks, and extreme vibration, making them reliable in various environments.

  • Advanced Features: Lifepak AEDs come with advanced features like temperature monitoring, external power, ECG monitoring, CPR coaching, and the ability to adjust shock energy levels as required. They also offer different operating modes, including a manual mode for performing manual defibrillation and synchronised cardioversion, AED mode for automated ECG analysis and a prompted treatment protocol for patients in cardiac arrest.

  • Connectivity and Data Sharing: Lifepak AEDs can connect to the cloud to transmit emergent patient data to the hospital, streamlining communication and providing valuable insights for continuous performance improvement. Many models also offer data retrieval capabilities, allowing healthcare professionals to access and review recorded data, including heart rhythms and shock delivery.

  • Portability: Some models, like the Lifepak CR Plus, are compact and portable, making them ideal for various settings.

  • Adaptability: Certain models of can be customised to match specific medical protocols or patient requirements, making them suitable for a broad spectrum of healthcare settings.

  • Bilingual Capabilities & Child Mode: The CR2 defibrillator models offer excellent accessibility with a built-in child mode and bilingual capabilities, making them ideal for diverse environments.

  • Continuous Self-Monitoring: Some models, like the Physio-Control LIFEPAK CR2, offer continuous self-monitoring to ensure devices and responders are always prepared to deliver lifesaving treatment.

When might Lifepak CR2 Defibrillators not be suitable?

The Lifepak CR2 AED might not be suitable in several situations:

  • It is designed for use on patients 1 year of age or older who are in cardiopulmonary arrest, unresponsive (unconscious), not breathing normally, and showing no signs of circulation (for example, no pulse, no coughing, or no movement).

  • While it is designed to be used by untrained people, it's always better if personnel who are going to be using the AED have been trained on how to use it and are familiar with its operation.

  • Like all defibrillators, damaged, expired, or dried-out pads should not be used as they may cause electrical arcing and skin burns during defibrillation.

  • Defibrillators should not be used in the presence of flammable gases or anaesthetics.

  • Regular inspections are key to ensuring the CR2 is at maximum rescue capacity. This includes checking for any physical damage or missing parts, ensuring the indicator light is flashing green, and checking the condition and expiration date of the electrode pads.
