Absorbent Pads, Socks & Booms
Absorbent pads, socks, and booms are crucial tools for managing and containing liquid spills in various environments. These kits typically include three main components, each designed for specific purposes in spill control and cleanup.
Absorbent Pads
Absorbent pads are versatile, flat sheets that can quickly soak up spilt liquids. They come in different weights and sizes and are ideal for wiping down surfaces, covering large areas under machinery, or catching overspray. They can be used as wipes for smaller spills or placed strategically to prevent leaks from spreading.
Absorbent pads are available in various types, including:
- Universal pads: Suitable for absorbing water-based fluids, oils, and non-aggressive chemicals
- Oil-only pads: Designed to absorb oil and repel water, making them ideal for outdoor use
- Chemical pads: Specifically formulated to handle aggressive chemicals and hazardous materials
Some absorbent pads are made with polypropylene and feature a low-linting cover on both sides. These pads are dimpled and bonded for extra strength, making them durable enough to be used as wipes and even stood on. If you need more absorbency capacity, then consider the absorbent pillows or cushions.
Absorbent Socks
Spill socks, also known as absorbent socks, are flexible tubes that can be used to encircle spills or placed around the base of leaking machinery. They act as a barrier to prevent liquids from spreading while absorbing the spill. Socks come in various lengths and diameters, with different absorption capacities.
Absorbent socks are available in different types, including:
- General purpose socks: Suitable for absorbing a wide range of liquids, including water, oils, and coolants
- Oil-specific socks: Designed to absorb oil and fuel while repelling water
- Chemical socks: Formulated to handle hazardous chemical spills and corrosive liquids
Some socks are made from up to 85% recycled materials from the EVO range.
Absorbent Booms
Booms are larger versions of socks, designed for containing and absorbing larger spills, particularly in outdoor environments or on water surfaces. They can be linked together to create longer barriers and are especially useful for oil spills on water, as some types are designed to float and repel water while absorbing oil.
Absorbent booms come in different types and sizes:
- Oil-absorbent booms: These not only contain oil spills but also absorb the oil. They can float on water even when saturated with oil, making them suitable for both offshore and inland use.
- Oil containment booms: Made of impermeable floating material, these booms are used to contain oil spills over water without absorbing the liquid.
Some absorbent booms feature metal rings so that several rings can be joined together.
By combining absorbent pads, socks, and booms in spill kits, organisations can effectively manage and contain various types of liquid spills, ensuring workplace safety and environmental protection.
