1. Bergge Tattoo QR Code Job Application

The sign of a good tattooist is a steady hand, a creative spark and patience. And what better way to vet potential employees than with a quirky job advert, making it innovative, targeted and relevant! This QR code application form by Berrge Tattoo Studio and BURO Agency requires applicants to carefully fill in the faint QR code on the page, before scanning it to proceed with the application process.

This proves that simplicity and technology can come together and combine traditional and modern techniques; sporting only the tagline: “New Tattoo Artists Wanted. To Apply, Fill In the QR Code Carefully.”

2. BBC World ‘See both sides of the story’

A new BBC World advertisement in America took a much unbiased form of advertising. The billboard was cleverly designed to be seen from both corners of the building. On the left side, the police are trying to keep an unknown enemy at bay, whereas the right side shows a women pushing back against an unknown object.

When combined and seen at once, the message of the ad comes through very strongly “See both sides of the story” through the unbiased medium of the BBC; which is what BBC World are trying to portray. A clever use of traditional marketing.

3. Adobe Photoshop Advert

One of Adobe’s Photoshop adverts featured a ‘real’ design studio, fully equipped with all the tools, media and palettes all laid out and compartmentalised as per the Software! It shows just how realistic and detailed Photoshop can be.

4. British Airways ‘Real Time’ Advertisement

In perhaps one of the most spatially aware and interactive advertisements of 2013, British Airways unveiled an interactive digital billboard in Piccadilly Circus which used custom-built surveillance technology to track flight data.

It incorporated a child onto the billboard that was standing up and pointing at aircrafts as they passed by, whilst simultaneously displaying information about the aircraft, and where it’s coming from! It was designed to highlight and remind people just how amazing and accessible the world can be.

5. Lego Creative Advert

Showing off the endless possibilities and creativity of Lego, this shadow advert shows simple Lego creations from a child’s perspective compared to what they actually are. Aimed primarily at parents, the advert shows that to a wild and curious imagination, they are much more than colourful bricks – boats, planes and dinosaurs!

6. Volkswagen ‘Texting whilst Driving…’

Highlighting the very real dangers of driving whilst texting, Volkswagen turned to something we are all familiar with – autocorrect. The desired sentence being “I’ll be there in a while”, but instead VW have subtly, and cleverly shown what the text could be after driving and texting.

“I’ll be there in a wheelchair” rings true but with simplistic shock tactics.

7. Clever Charity Donation Box

Most charity boxes involve placing your spare change into a darkened box and you don’t see any immediate effect from the donation. In Japan, this clever charity box is designed to create a water displacement reaction that works visually to provide drinking water for the statue at the end when a donation is made.

A great real time visualisation of where your money goes whilst combining basic science and quirky marketing.

8. Honda ‘Hands’

Honda are well-known for their impressive and professional adverts They recently released their latest offering called ‘Hands‘. Watch as a pair of men’s hands plays around with all the different products that Honda has to offer; which proves to be quite a number!
