If you’re a startup business or been in the swing of things for a few years. Running a tattoo studio comes with a lot more responsibilities than just drumming up new business.

Below we’re going to run through some of the requirements by law and how our range of products can help you.

Legal Regulations

It’s important for any new business’ reputation and success that they adhere to the legal obligations associated with their industry, especially in the current competitive business climate of the UK. As you’d expect, the tattoo industry is governed by some of the strictest laws and industry regulations, so you need to be aware of what’s required if you’re thinking of setting up shop as an ink artist. Regulations span from the mandatory (using a new pair of gloves for each and every customer), through to the slightly less transparent regulations around disposal of clinical waste. At Direct365 we meet the needs of hundreds of businesses in different industries across the country, and the tattoo industry is no different – read on for an overview of our recommendations for waste disposal and disposables.

Disposal & Collection of Clinical Waste

Although the needles used by tattooists are classed as non-hazardous clinical waste, they still need to be disposed of in accordance with governmental regulations. Direct365 can provide inclusive contracts for both Sharps bins (designed for safe needle storage prior to collection) and bins for more general clinical waste (aprons, gloves, bandages etc.).

Sharps bins are designed specifically for the secure storage of used needles until the bin is due to be collected by your provider. The regularity of collection varies from business to business depending on size and traffic, but a small to medium tattoo parlour would normally be advised to choose a contract that includes service of their Sharps bins twice a year.

More general clinical waste bins can be used for any waste that may contain bodily fluids or chemicals, such as aprons and bandages. Collection and service of this bin is usually part of the same waste disposal contract, ensuring that its contents are disposed of properly by incineration. Clinical waste bags are included in your contract, as is the necessary Duty of Care and Clinical Waste Declaration documents to make sure your business is all above board. We do sell Sharps bins outright but remember: if you’re going to buy your Sharps bin outright, you’ll need a registered waste disposal company to service it.

Disposables

We stock a wide range of cleaning products, specialist bins and more, so you can keep a sterile and sparkling shop in order to build up that all-important reputation. We also stock disposable aprons, hygiene rolls and a host of cleaning chemicals all available in bulk or as single units.

So, whether you’re looking for a contract to take the worry out of waste disposal, or a reliable supplier for your disposable needs, have a look at what Direct365 can offer – why not give us a call and speak to one of our team who can give you personal, tailor-made advice?
